PSD Olhão defends small producers and calls for the reopening of the street market for all
In response to several requests for help, sent by small producers, PSD Olhão, in line with the local candidacy “Olhão Para Todos”, publicly appeals to the Municipal Company Mercados de Olhão to create the conditions, in compliance with the rules DGS, to reopen the Street Market every Saturday to all producers.
The current situation, which only allows the presence of 50% of producers every Saturday, is becoming unaffordable for traders who, selling only every 15 days, are unable to sell their production, accumulating losses, as a result of a year of deep economic crisis caused by the pandemic.
Alternatively, while it is not possible to reopen the usual space for all
producers, we propose that the Levante Park be made available for this purpose, dividing the producers into two groups. Thus, every Saturday, all producers could sell their products, 50% in front of the Municipal Market and 50% in Parque do Levante, alternating the occupation on a weekly basis.
We argue that, as long as the entry of customers continues to be controlled, limiting the number of stalls abroad does not make any sense at this time, when stalls inside the markets are fully operational and other street markets throughout the Algarve do not have any limitations.
